Saggar Firing
These pots are my favorites.  In a modification of ancient pit firing, pots are fired inside clay containers along with wood, metallic oxides, salt, other combustibles and metal.  Requiring at times multiple firings, this method produces pots with complex but subtle tones, and with layers of color and surface markings that create a visual sense of depth.  The most beautiful series, in my opinion, these pots also require the most time and skill in firing.  Which is as it should be.
